Personal Monitoring

In many industries toxic gas is a hazard and some gases have either very little or no smell. Having a portable detector to monitor the hazards directly around your breathing space is very important in a lot of industries including mining, sewerage works, farms, waste water facilities, refineries and many more.

Asphyxiation is a condition of severely deficient supply of oxygen to the body that arises from being unable to breathe normally. One example of this life threatening condition is when a person is subject to a naturally processed gas.  

A 43 year old dairy farm owner and his 23 year old son died from asphyxiation after entering one of two adjacent 8-foot-deep manure waste pits hat were connected by a tunnel. The pits were located under each half of the end of a dairy holding barn and were connected so that both pits could be pumped from one side. The workers were pumping the manure from the pit into a manure spreader tank using a pump.

The pump became obstructed and the father removed a steel grate cover and descended into the nearly empty pit. The father was overcome and the son entered to help his father and was overcome as well. The victims were discovered 22 hours late by the farm owner’s wife and the mother of the 23 year old victim. The coroner listed asphyxiation due to hypoxia as the cause of death for both victims.

Oxygen deficient atmospheres are the basis for many single and multiple deaths occurring. The deceased will be observed lying prone in the bottom of a tank and when the observer will rush in to rescue them they will succumb to the same effect and hence the need to vent or purge the inert gases from all tanks before entry.

This is why it is so important when you are dealing with toxic gases due to process or environment that you are protected with a personal monitor that is reliable and technology-driven to detect these harmful gases before they take any effect on the individual.
